How to check your wheel bearings:
Jack up the wheel and grab the top and bottom with your hands and pull back and forth. If there is alot of slack, the bearings are bad. Another Tell-Tale sign is popping or grinding coming from the wheel hubs.
Installation Tip:
The night before you will install the bearings, put them in the freezer. Also, coat the outside of the bearing and hub with a light coat of grease. The freezing will shrink the bearings slightly and the grease will make the install and pressing the bearings in much easier.
